It’s almost time to travel. Have you got everything? Are there any restrictions? Here’s a list of some of the most important items you need to know and bring along for your trip.
Know before you go!
Check out the US Department of State travel page for all the latest travel requirements and information you need to know for travel.
Have your travel documents?
It is advised that you make two copies of all your travel documents in case of an emergency. You should take one set with you. Keep them separate from the original documents. The other set should be left behind with a trusted individual.
Proper ID is required for air travel within the US.
Learn about air requirements here.
Depending on the location(s) traveling to, you may need a valid form of any or all of the following:
- Valid State ID/License
- Passport – Needs to be valid for at least 6 months post trip end date and have at least 2 blank pages or some countries may refuse entry.
- Visa – You may need this to travel to certain international destinations. Contact the embassy of the countries you intend on traveling to for details and requirements.
Some medications are illegal in international countries. Please check with the embassies of your travel destinations regarding requirements.
If traveling alone with child(ren), please be aware that foreign border agents may require custody documents or notarized written permission from other parent. Please check with the embassies of the destinations of which you travel to.
Plan to drive? You may need an international driving permit along with supplemental auto insurance. Learn more here.
Protect yourself and your trip
Prepare for the unexpected. Purchase travel protection and/or trip insurance. Many international destinations require cash upfront for medical emergencies. Also, only select US health plans are accepted abroad. Restrictions and requirements may be required for these products. Contact your travel agent for details on what coverage might be available and best for your trip.
